Arts Spotlights

Nigel Semaj (Assistant Professor, Theatre) was awarded the 2025-26 Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Agora Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. Nigel is the inaugural Artist-in-Residence to be included in this prestigious program that draws participants doing complementary work in diverse fields that advance the SNF Agora Institute’s mission of promoting civil dialogue and civic engagement. 

Daniel Rich (Affiliate Artist, Music) participated in Roots and Resonance: An Operatic Love Letter to Baltimore, presented by Opera Baltimore at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture on Saturday, February 14.

Adam Mendelson (Associate Teaching Professor, Theatre) was the Sound Designer for the world premiere of DAWN at Everyman Theatre, Baltimore, with performances through March 1. Last May, Adam worked with Niya John (Theatre ’24) on the lighting design for The Piano Lesson at 1st Stage in Tysons, VA.  That production was recently nominated for 6 Helen Hayes awards, the highest honor in the DMV theatre community.

Irene Chan’s (Professor, Visual Arts) work 3 Generations Top was prominently featured in the Baltimore Beat’s What’s Poppin’ Issue 078 on February 24.

Tim Nohe’s (Associate Dean, CAHSS; Professor, Visual Arts) short video work CosmonautOp_ReMix will be featured in the West Virginia Mountaineer Short Film Festival, taking place March 5 – 8 at West Virginia University Canady Creative Arts Center, Morgantown, WV.

Kristin Putchinski (IMDA ‘24) is part of Area 405’s Tenant Exhibition show, running through March 13 at Area 405 in Baltimore.  On Saturday, February 28 at 1:30PM, she will present two iterative, task-based performances, Piano: The Body is a Sacred Garment.  These experimental movement performances will feature Anna Kroll (IMDA ‘23) and materials from a piano once owned by artist David Crandall (IMDA ’99).
