Deadline: yearly early December
The Center for Innovation, Research and Creativity in the Arts (CIRCA) invites applications from full-time tenured and tenure-track UMBC faculty members, Lecturers, and Senior Lecturers in the Arts (Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts) for the CIRCA Pedagogy Fellowship for the Fall 2022 or Spring 2023 semesters. Funding is intended to support the development of a new course or revision of a current undergraduate or graduate course that emanates from the creative research of the faculty member and represents a significant addition to Arts curriculum at UMBC. The Pedagogy Fellow will receive release from teaching in the selected semester (up to two course releases) in order to pursue this work and/or to complete training necessary to embark on such work. The CPF offers time to fully concentrate, reinvigorate teaching, and to explore innovative new directions.
Proposals will be reviewed by the CIRCA review panel, with decisions finalized and communicated by the CIRCA Director. The CIRCA Director will work with the Department Chair and Dean of CAHSS to address service workloads during the fellowship semester.
Applications will be evaluated on the degree to which they meet the stated purpose of this fellowship program. Criteria include evidence that:
- The proposed curricular direction emanates from the faculty’s research and/or creative work and represents a significant addition to Arts curriculum at UMBC.
- The applicant is qualified to carry out the scope of the proposed activities during the fellowship term, is an active and productive instructor and/or researcher in the field and has the necessary skills and background to move toward implementation of the proposed course in the classroom or studio.
- The fellowship release from teaching will allow the applicant to complete the proposed work which will forge significant new directions in their teaching
