CIRCA Graduate Student Research Grant

Deadlines: October 15 (Fall), April 15 (Spring)

APPLICATION

The Center for Innovation, Research and Creativity in the Arts (CIRCA) invites applications from UMBC graduate students to support and promote significant research and innovation in the Arts. The grants are open to all UMBC doctoral and master’s level students working on arts-related research projects that will culminate in a dissertation, master’s thesis, and/or master’s thesis exhibition. The CIRCA Graduate Student Research Grant will provide up to $1000 (maximum per academic year) to support professional development activities, such as attendance at workshops or courses to develop new skills related to the applicant’s artistic practice, research travel, materials, or other directly-related research expenses. Applications will be evaluated on the strength of the proposal and applicability to the applicant’s creative research.

Policies and restrictions:

  • Awardees are required to submit a summary of the work accomplished by the end of the subsequent semester, including a statement on the progress made toward the completion of their dissertation or thesis project. Please email your report to circa@umbc.edu.
  • Awardees will be invited to present their funded project in a CIRCA program.

After the deadline, materials will be reviewed as soon as possible in consultation with CIRCA Advisory Board members, and the Director will respond with a determination on the request.
